The Mountain Before Us

Zechariah 4:1–10 shows Zerubbabel facing the overwhelming task of rebuilding the temple after years of opposition, delay, and discouragement. God reminds him that His work will not be accomplished by human strength, but “by my Spirit.” The great mountain before Zerubbabel was real, but it could not frustrate God’s purposes. His responsibility was not to control the outcome, but to obey faithfully and trust God with the results. The passage also warns against despising “the day of small things,” because God often works through ordinary, unseen acts of faithfulness. For Cornerstone and every Christian, success is not ultimately measured by size, resources, or visible results, but by dependence on God, holiness, discipleship, and obedience. Ultimately, the passage points to Christ, whose saving work was accomplished not through worldly strength but through the cross and resurrection. Our calling is simple: do the next faithful thing God has given us to do and trust Him with what only He can accomplish.
